About the book

In 1918 a group of Chekists takes confiscated jewels out of Irkutsk. On the way to Petrograd the Cheka men run into a serious problem: there is a mutiny in the Urals and moving on is impossible. There is nowhere to go back to either, for Irkutsk is in enemy hands. The Chekists reload the boxes of jewels onto carts and hurry to hide in the taiga, and the Whites rush after them. Both detachments vanish in the deep uninhabited wilds, without a trace... In 2006 history students find the diary of a White Guard lieutenant. It describes in detail the valuables confiscated by the Reds, and the students catch fire with the idea of finding the treasure at all costs. They equip an expedition and set off for the taiga... and soon run into dangerous competitors there. It turns out they are not the only ones searching for the treasure...
