About the book

1922. Ruin and lawlessness. Soviet Russia is coming to its senses after the devastating Civil War... In Kazan, famous for its daring bandits, a gang appears calling itself the zhigans. The laws of the Soviet power mean nothing to them, and the principles of old-school thieves are no order. No one is any order to them. The zhigans boldly rob banks, fire at people for no reason, deal briskly with those they dislike, and spare no one. The gang's leader, a young raider nicknamed Recruit, is about to crush the entire city, and Kazan alone is not enough for him: it is time to take Moscow in hand... The zhigans have managed to spite everyone: the Chekists have opened a hunt on the bandits, the old urkas have called on Moscow's thieves for help. And that is already war. But Recruit does not care: that is what a zhigan is for, to dodge stray bullets and come out of the fire alive...
