About the book

In 1911 the rich connoisseur of beauty Nikolai Zosimov decides to acquire for his collection, at any cost, the “Mona Lisa”, the most famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci. The trouble is that the picture is not for sale: it hangs in the Louvre and is a national treasure of France. But is that an obstacle for a passionate collector? Of course not! Zosimov hires the virtuoso swindler Mikhail Golitsyn and orders him to steal the masterpiece. Golitsyn arrives in Paris, prepares long and carefully, and when, fully equipped, he turns up at the Louvre, he discovers that someone has beaten him to it: the “Mona Lisa” was stolen only a few hours ago…
