About the book

The narrative is based on the story of the creation of an icon of the Mother of God painted almost fifteen hundred years ago, in the seventh century, and the events connected with its fate. Using a non-linear time structure based on the testimony of contemporaries and the many works of present-day researchers, the author dwells on the key characters and facts that reliably confirm the complicated “journey” of the icon from one owner to another, from one state to another, until at last it ends up in the Vatican, in the private chambers of the Pope.

Historical events unfold in a richly woven narrative: from Byzantine emperors to medieval knights, from secluded monasteries to majestic cathedrals. The icon passes through the hands of saints and sinners alike, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who comes into contact with it. The book tells of many historical figures whose fate was bound up with the life path of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

The books are being translated into English, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Choose a language under "Read the full book" or "Listen to the full audiobook".
