About the book

To catch the killer, the detective must become the target.

1904. The judicial investigator for especially important cases, Ivan Fyodorovich Volovtsov, goes to Kazan to investigate a series of mysterious murders. The victims, an official, a merchant and a staff captain, were shot with an unusual weapon using bullets with a hexagonal base. Each of the dead had serious enemies. The official had uncovered large embezzlement at the gunpowder factory; the merchant had built a mill, harming the interests of competitors; the staff captain had been a fierce opponent of the growing Socialist Revolutionaries... Investigator Volovtsov works through theories. But the killer is not idle either. His next victim is the vice-governor. And again the hexagonal bullet appears in the case... The case seems tangled until a man with special marks comes into the investigation's view...

A historical detective novel about a crime of the early last century. The author immerses us in the atmosphere of that time so vividly that we can literally hear the clatter of the cobblestones, the noise of the city bazaar, the ringing of bells and the piercing whistles of the policemen...
